AVB to be new skipper of Tottenham?

...huh...

Via SKY Sports-Tottenham could make Andre Villas-Boas their new manager as early as this weekend.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is ready to give the Portuguese a second crack at Premier League management just four months after the end of his short spell at Chelsea.

Villas-Boas is as short as 1/14 with English bookmakers to replace Harry Redknapp, and Tottenham cleared the decks for his arrival by confirming the departures of coaches Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond on Thursday.

Gareth Bale's decision to extend his deal will be welcome, but the former Porto boss has a fight on his hands to keep Luka Modric.

Modric is again being linked with Real Madrid and is on record saying he wants to leave for a club in the Champions League.

But, according to former Real star Guti, the Croatian is not good enough for the Bernabeu.

"He hasn't even been the key man for Tottenham," Guti said. "I don't think he's done enough to play for Madrid."

Yakubu did it for the love (of money)

I'll have enough money to put rings on ALL these fingers baby!

Via ESPN Yakubu's latest adventure has attracted a lot of attention, and also a lot of criticism aimed at his motives. However he told the BBC that money was not why he chose to join the club.

"Money cannot buy you happiness and what I have found from the people in China is love, happiness, sincerity and warmth [and] I can't wait to get started here," he said. "They are starting an unbelievable football programme here and it's nice to be a part of it." Full Story

Oh please dude. Save it for someone who doesn't make $30k a year ok? I'm sure the Chinese people are lovely, but I'll bet the millions that this club is going to pay you has EVERYTHING to do with your move eastward.   My guess is that no EPL club (or any other club for that matter) was willing to pay you anywhere close to what your going to make in China.

Have fun playing in a league where noone but the Chinese will ever see you play or even here about your season.

Shooting at PAOK Thessaloniki coachs house injures two

No cheerleaders were harmed. Thank god.

Via AP-Athens-Police in Greece say two people have been wounded in a shootout after armed robbers invaded the Athens home of PAOK Thessaloniki coach Giorgos Donis.

The shooting occurred Wednesday in Athens' upscale Kifissia area. A police officer was shot in the leg and an alleged armed robber was also wounded.

The 42-year-old Donis, a former player for Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United in England, was not present when two men entered his home, holding his wife's parents and two children at gunpoint.

One of the alleged attackers was later arrested, while a large police operation, involving a helicopter and dozens of officers on foot and on motorcycles, was mounted to catch his accomplice.

Goalline tech to get OK by FIFA

It looks like the crusty old guys over at FIFA are getting ready to OK the use of goal line technology.

"The Hawk-Eye system — developed by a British company now owned by Sony — is based on camera. GoalRef —a Danish-German development — uses magnetic fields.

Each system is required to send an immediate message to a watch worn by the referee when the ball crosses the line."

Wow magnetic fields?? That sounds AWESOME!! I wonder though how the field differentiates between the ball and the 'keeper.

"It is still likely to be many months before any system is up and working. The systems will have to be licensed and installed in stadiums, and then certified that they are working.

FIFA's Club World Cup in Japan in December is likely to be the first competition where the technology is used."

It's about time this happened. I understand the whole "beautiful game" argument. They've been making the same argument in baseball for years when arguing against instant replay.  I'm sorry but sometimes the classics have to advance and change with the world we live in.

Chinese soccer fan stays up 11 days...then dies.

I know I'm a few days late on this but, WHAT THE HELL?!?!? How do you not just pass out from exhaustion? That's allot of 5 Hour Energy drinks.

Via ESPN-A soccer fan in China has died after staying up for 11 straight nights to watch every game of Euro 2012, according to a report in Chinese newspaper Sanxiang Metropolis.

Jiang Xiaoshan, 26, died after Ireland's 2-0 defeat to Italy on June 18, according to the report.
Because of the time difference between China and the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, games would air at midnight and 2:45 a.m. local time. Jiang went to work after watching the matches.

"We would rest occasionally but he watched everyday and would not miss a single match," one friend told the Sanxiang Metropolis, according to a translation by British newspaper The Telegraph.

"Jiang was in good health. But staying up through the night and not sleeping enough weakened his immune system and he drank and smoked while watching the football, triggering his condition," Liu Zhiling, a doctor from the local People's Hospital ER, told the Chinese paper.

Great Britain gives the middle finger to David Beckham

This makes NO sense to me but the news is coming out today that David Beckham will not make the Great Britain soccer squad for the Olympic Games in London.

Via AP-WARSAW, Poland -- Former England captain David Beckham has failed to make the British football team for the London Olympics.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder made Britain coach Stuart Pearce's shortlist of 35 but wasn't selected for the final 18-man squad as one of three players over the age of 23 allowed to compete in the games.

"Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad," the 37-year-old Beckham said Thursday in a statement to The Associated Press. "Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold."

Beckham had been widely expected to be selected for the Olympic squad after playing an instrumental role
in in helping Sebastian Coe and his team win the bid in 2005 to host the games.

"As a Londoner, I will have been really proud to have played a small part in bringing the Olympics to my home town as part of Seb's team, and I can't wait for the games to begin and enjoy every moment along with the rest of Great Britain," Beckham said.

Britain's three overage players will be Welsh stars Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy and English defender Micah Richards, a person familiar with the situation said. He spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because details of the squad haven't been publicly released.

Giggs played alongside Beckham at Manchester United and Bellamy is a forward at Liverpool. Richards plays for Manchester City and appears to have been chosen ahead of Beckham to provide extra defensive cover.

The Olympic snub appears to spell the end of Beckham's career representing his country. England's most-capped outfield player made the last of his 115 appearances for England in 2009.

Not only did he help you WIN THE RIGHT TO HOST THE GAMES but he's one of your countrys best all time players.  David Beckham maybe 37 but anyone with half a brain can see that he can still ball with the best of them.  Why would you pass up a chance to have a veteran leader on your young squad? Especially for a guy in Micah Richards who doesn't even play regularly at Manchester City!

I'll be damned! Bale to stay at Hotspur.

Via SKY Sports-Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract at Tottenham.

The Wales winger has committed himself to White Hart Lane until 2016, ending speculation over his future amid interest from rival clubs at home and abroad.

"The club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done,'' Bale told Tottenham's official website.

Barcelona and Real Madrid were among the clubs linked with Bale, who is willing to remain at Tottenham despite their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League last season but missed out on Europe's top club competition after Chelsea won the trophy.

Bale, 22, is determined to help bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.

"I've been here for five years now and I've enjoyed every minute,'' he said.

"The fans have been great to me and I'd love to re-pay them and do the very best for them.

"The club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done.

"I love the club and the fans and I want to play my part in trying to get us back into the Champions League - where we belong.

"We have a good, young squad and we need to work together to get back on the biggest stage."

Samir Nasri: "My bad."

"You see that guy? Let's fuck him up!"

Via AP-PARIS — Samir Nasri has apologized to supporters of the France team for the expletive-laced rant he aimed at a journalist following the 2-0 defeat to Spain in the European Championship quarterfinals.

Nasri was walking through the interview area when the heated exchange took place after the journalist asked him for a reaction to the loss. Reports said the dispute escalated and Nasri challenged the journalist to take their argument further.
France coach Laurent Blanc and the national football federation criticized Nasri's behavior, and he faces possible disciplinary action.

Nasri wrote on his Twitter page Wednesday that "supporters and in particular children should know that I regret that my language may have shocked them."

He did not apologize to the reporter.

Rangers can't stop mass exodus of players

Via ESPN-Rangers captain Steven Davis - who skippered the side through four months of administration last season - and goalkeeper Allan McGregor have joined the ranks of players declining to transfer their contracts to Charles Green's "newco".

The duo's decision means ten players have now declined to move to the new club amid uncertainty over which level of Scottish football it will be able to play at next season. Kyle Lafferty, Jamie Ness, Rhys McCabe, Sone Aluko, Steven Naismith, Steven Whittaker, Juan Manuel Ortiz and John Fleck have already decided not to transfer their deals.

Scottish Premier League clubs, who meet to vote on whether to allow the "newco" to play in the top flight early next month, must give an 8-4 majority if Green's club is to play SPL football. But with six SPL clubs having declared that they will vote against -and more thought likely to follow their example - Green now looks likely to seek a place in the Scottish Football League.

That possibility has already seen Raith Rovers and Falkirk declare that they would oppose any league reconstruction allowing the "newco" to go straight into the First Division. A 75% majority vote would be needed for SFL clubs to pass any resolution on possible restructuring of the league to accommodate the new Rangers.

Green has initially threatened players with legal action for breach of contract if they left Ibrox, but PFA Scotland's lawyers have said they believe the football authorities will back their conclusion that the situation means they are all free agents.

"I'm very disappointed, of course, particularly so late in the proceedings," Green told Sky Sports. "It's clear the regulations behind TUPE are if someone has an objection, they have to notify within 24 hours. This is almost two weeks after the day. I think this is just opportunism. I'll definitely challenge it."
Davis said he had decided not to transfer his contract because he wanted to continue playing at the highest possible level.

In a statement, he told Rangers supporters: "Only those that know me will know how much Rangers mean to me. I felt it was only right to give the fans an explanation of how I've agonised so much over this decision.

"I signed a new contract last year in the knowledge of giving my best years to the club, with European football and challenging for leagues and cups year after year - that's why I came to Rangers. There came a point when I needed to make a decision based on what was best for my short career. I am 27, and I hope you all understand I need to be playing at the highest possible level.

"I've been lucky enough to not only play for but also captain my boyhood heroes and, no matter what I achieve in the future, I'll look back at the time I spent with the club as some of the happiest years of my life."
The developments mean any hopes Green may have harboured of receiving transfer fees for departing players now appear to be slim or dashed. Legal requests for the release of the players' registrations have been sent to the Scottish Football Association.

Rangers players are due to report for pre-season training on Thursday, but it is unclear how many senior squad members - other than Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace, who have said they will stay - will be there.

The business and assets of Rangers, who were liquidated with huge debts, were bought by Green after he failed to gain the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) needed for the club to exit administration. The liquidation meant the automatic loss of the SPL place belonging to the old Rangers.

My God UEFA Champs League Prelims are already starting!

I'm a fan of Linfield FC and didn't even know it!

Via BBC-Irish League side Linfield have been drawn against B36 Torshavn of the Faroe Islands in the first preliminary round of the Champions League.

If David Jeffrey's men get through they will face Cypriot team AEL Limassol.

Belfast club Linfield won their 51st Irish Premiership title by a massive 14-point margin last season.
In the Europa League, Crusaders take on Norway's Rosenborg, Cliftonville meet Kalmar FF of Sweden and Portadown are up against FK Shkëndija of Macedonia.

Last season B36 won the Faroe Islands league title for a ninth time and this will be their fifth Champions League campaign.

Cliftonville's opponents Kalmar were eighth in the Swedish league last season but qualified by reaching the final of the Svenska Cupen.

Crusaders have announced their home leg against Rosenborg will be on Thursday 5 July with the return game in Norway a week later.

Rosenborg faced Northern Ireland opposition two years ago when they beat Linfield 2-0 on aggregate in the Champions League.

Portadown will face Shkëndija away on Tuesday 3 July, with the home leg on Tuesday 10 July at Shamrock Park.

Jambos select new skipper

Via BBC-Hearts have finalised the return of John McGlynn to Tynecastle as manager on a one-year contract.

The former Hearts assistant joins after a spell at Raith Rovers, who had given the 50-year-old permission to talk to the Scottish Premier League club.

The club stated: "The post attracted interest from around the globe and the quality of the applications made it a difficult decision."

But McGlynn had impressed with his ability to develop young players.

He succeeds Paulo Sergio, who rejected the offer of a reduced contract after leading his side to victory in
the Scottish Cup final against Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.

Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov last season began the process of reducing the wage bill at Tynecastle, saying it could no longer rely on him investing further in the club.

Romanov wants the club to concentrate on its youth system and, in announcing the arrival of McGlynn, the Hearts website highlighted the new manager's role in developing a number of future Scotland internationals during his previous spell at the club.

"John's track record in developing young players is outstanding and one of the key criteria for the appointment was an ability to successfully integrate youngsters into a senior squad which can compete competitively at the top end of the table," said a club spokesman.

"He also knows the club intimately, having previously spent 10 years as a coach here, and we are confident he can take the club forward and build on the success of last season's William Hill Scottish Cup triumph.
"We would also like to put on record our appreciation of Raith Rovers' co-operation in this matter."
McGlynn, who becomes Hearts' 10th manager since Lithuania-based businessman Romanov's 2005 takeover, joined Hearts in 1996.

He had two spells as caretaker manager in 2005 before assisting Valdas Ivanauskas as they won the Scottish Cup the following year.

McGlynn left Tynecastle in November 2006 to take up the manager's post at Stark's Park and led Rovers to the Second Division championship in 2009.

The following year, he led the Fife side to their first Scottish Cup semi-final appearance for nearly 50 years, losing to eventual winners Dundee United.

In season 2010-11, McGlynn was named PFA Scotland Manager of the Year after his side just missed out on promotion to the SPL, but they slipped to seventh last season.

Hearts previously confirmed that first-team coach Gary Locke would remain following Sergio's departure and would be part of the new coaching set-up.

Is everyone in Europe racists?

These fine white gentlemen surely aren't racist

Sky Sports-UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against both the Spanish football federation and the Russian football union for the "improper conduct" of their supporters during Euro 2012 group matches.
The cases both relate to racist behaviour and racist chanting, European football's governing body announced Tuesday.

A UEFA statement read: "UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for the improper conduct of their supporters (racist behaviour, racist chanting) at the EURO 2012 Group C match against Italy in Gdansk on Sunday 10 June.

"Disciplinary proceedings have also been opened against the Russian Football Union (RFS) for the improper conduct of their supporters (racist behaviour, racist chanting) at the EURO 2012 Group A match against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Friday 8 June."

The cases will be dealt with on Thursday.

Spain face Portugal Wednesday night in the first of the two Euro 2012 semi-finals.
Russia were knocked out at the group stage after finishing third in Group A.

Russia have been punished three times already by UEFA for the improper behaviour of their fans during the tournament.

They were given a suspended six-point deduction from their next Euro qualifying campaign, and fined 120,000 euros (£96,761), due to "the setting off and throwing of fireworks and the display of illicit banners'' during the opening group match against the Czechs.

Russia appealed against that punishment.

The RFS were then fined 30,000 euros (£24,300) for spectator-related incidents during their second group match against Poland, which again included the setting off and throwing of fireworks, the displaying of illicit banners and a pitch invasion of a supporter.

And on Saturday the RFS were hit with a 35,000 euros (£28,000) fine for fireworks and displaying of illicit banners in their final Group A game against Greece.

UEFA have also punished several other countries for spectator-related incidents in Poland and Ukraine.
The Croatian football federation (HNS) were last Tuesday fined 80,000 euros (£64,561) after their fans were found guilty of racially abusing Mario Balotelli during their match game against Italy.

The punishment, which was also dished out for the setting off and throwing of fireworks, was the first for a racially-aggravated offence at a tournament which has been marred by the problem.

According to official observers, Italy striker Balotelli was subjected to monkey chants by between 300 and 500 Croatia fans during the 1-1 Group B draw in Poznan.

There were also accusations of a banana being thrown onto the pitch at the Municipal Stadium.

Glasgow Rangers may have a problem finding a league to play in!

Via ESPN-Glasgow-The uncertainty over where a "newco" Rangers could play next season increased on Tuesday when Scottish First Division clubs voiced their opposition to them being allowed go straight into the division.

On July 4, Scottish Premier League (SPL) clubs are due to vote on whether to allow Charles Green's new Rangers to play in the top flight. Rangers require an 8-4 majority - but six clubs have declared their intention to vote against, meaning Green is likely to seek a place in the Scottish Football League (SFL).

That possibility has already seen Raith Rovers and Falkirk declare that they would oppose any league reconstruction allowing the "newco" to go straight into the First Division.

A Raith statement said: "Raith Rovers continues to closely monitor developments.
"As proud members of the Scottish Football League, we may soon be called upon to consider proposals for the way forward, not only in relation to any vacancy that may arise in our league but also in respect of the future construction of the game in Scotland.

"Whilst we retain an open mind on the subject of league reconstruction, and will carefully consider any proposal put to us by the SFL board in this regard, the board of directors of Raith Rovers FC is unanimous in its view that we shall certainly not cast our vote in favour of any integrated plan that in our view compromises sporting integrity by involving the admission of any "newco" directly into Division One.''
A 75% majority would be needed for SFL clubs to pass any resolution on possible restructuring of the league to accommodate the "newco".

The business and assets of Rangers, who were liquidated with huge debts, were bought by Green after he failed to gain the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) needed for the club to exit administration. The liquidation meant the automatic loss of the SPL place belonging to the old Rangers.

SPL clubs have said they would not welcome the new Rangers, with St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Inverness, Hearts, Dundee United and Hibernian all making their opposition public.

Inverness chairman Kenny Cameron said his club could not ignore the opinion of its supporters, adding: "We have also been contacted by supporters of various other SPL clubs, saying they would not be back to Inverness if we did not accept that sporting integrity was what mattered.

"But this is something that we had already considered, and it is not only the integrity of the SPL that is at stake but the integrity of Scottish football. It is quite clear that supporter opinion in Scotland overwhelming supports that view."

The Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov said: "[Rangers] supporters deserve a new beginning and have to accept the fact that their club has to start from the lower league, keeping order in the SPL and without creating unfair competition with other clubs.

"As regards the club itself, we can only express our deepest condolences to its supporters, who have been lied to for so many years. It had to happen sooner or later. They have lived beyond law and all morals, and should now be declared beyond the pale.''

Dundee United said "general sporting integrity and, more importantly, the integrity of Scottish football, must play a significant part in the decision-making process. It is our belief that any form of sporting punishment must be unambiguous in the message it displays."

On Sunday, Hibernian had stressed that the integrity of the SPL was more important than financial considerations. In a statement, the club said: "The board is also acutely aware that in making this decision, Hibernian - like other clubs in the SPL - will suffer collateral financial damage at a time of severe economic hardship and uncertainty."

Meanwhile, the Scotland left-back Lee Wallace pledged his future to the "newco" two days after Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith said they would exercise their right not to transfer to Green's company.
Rhys McCabe and Sone Aluko have also indicated they will leave Ibrox, but Wallace joins Lee McCulloch in deciding to stay and said: "I respect the decision taken by each individual player."

You stay classy Liverpool

(Not the offending fan)

Associated Press-A Liverpool soccer fan has been banned from for four years from Liverpool and England games after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United captain Patrice Evra.

Phillip Gannon was seen on live television making a racially offensive monkey gesture during the FA Cup fourth-round match between the teams.

The normally heated atmosphere was even more volatile because it was the first game between the clubs since Liverpool's Luis Suarez drew an eight-match ban for racially abusing Evra.

On Friday, Liverpool Magistrates' court banned the 58-year-old Gannon from all Liverpool and England games and ordered him to pay a $280 fine as well as $467 in prosecution costs. Gannon is also banned from Liverpool city center for four hours before and after a match.

Topless Ladies protest Misogynistic Pig...wait I think I got that wrong.

(There's an Italian joke to be made here but I just can't find it.)

I have to say that if you want me to pay attention to you then showing your breasts is the way to do it. Oh you're doing it protest misogyny? Oh...well..then showing your breasts makes no sense and I'm going to stare anyways.

NewsCore- KIEV-A bare-breasted feminist Thursday staged a one-woman protest at a Euro 2012 fanzone in Kiev, breaching security at the pen of a "psychic" pig to complain about how soccer fans had ruined the Ukrainian capital.

The woman, wearing only a pair of jeans and with an uncompromising message to the competition organizers written on her chest, got into the enclosure housing Funtik the hog in the special area set up for fans without tickets to watch matches.

The protester belonged to the Femen group, who have staged previous demonstrations against prostitution, sex tourism and sexual harassment -- usually half-naked or scantily clad.

Femen said later on its website that it was "outraged by this ghetto of alcohol and football in the center of Kiev" and accused the city authorities of "handing over the city to the vandalism organized by the football mafia at UEFA."

An AFP photographer witnessed security guards removing the woman from the enclosure.

Funtik the prognosticating porker is one of a number of apparently "psychic" animals vying to assume the mantle of Paul the Octopus, who correctly predicted the results of the German team in the last World Cup.

Germans in trouble for Neo-Nazi banners and throwing...paper balls??

Emo Hitler is NOT amused by your hijincks!!

Via AP- UEFA charged the German football association on Tuesday after anti-discrimination monitors reported seeing a neo-Nazi banner at a European Championship match against Denmark.
UEFA said the charge of ''improper conduct'' of its fans related to the display of ''inappropriate banners and symbols.''

The case was opened based on reports by monitors from the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) fans' network, which UEFA appointed to help combat racism and offensive flags, chants and behavior in Euro 2012 stadiums.

''FARE can confirm that one of our observers reported a neo-Nazi banner in the German section at the match vs. Denmark in Lviv on Sunday,'' the group said in a statement.

Fans in the Arena Lviv in Ukraine were also responsible for ''inappropriate chanting'' and setting off fireworks, UEFA said in a statement.

UEFA rules make national associations responsible for their fans' actions inside stadiums.
German fans have now provoked UEFA charges after all three of the team's matches at Euro 2012.
Portugal players were pelted with crumpled paper balls during the teams' first match in Lviv. UEFA fined the German association 10,000 euros ($12,550).

After Germany played the Netherlands in Kharkiv, Ukraine, UEFA opened a case for fans setting off fireworks and throwing more paper balls. UEFA has not yet published a ruling.

UEFA said its disciplinary panel will deal with the latest case on Saturday.

Germany beat Denmark 2-1 to advance to a quarterfinal match against Greece on Friday, in Gdansk, Poland.

Didier Drogba makes a (unsurprising) club choice

In the LEAST surprising news of the day Didier Drogba has made his announcement about which club he will be joining at the start of next season.

Via ESPN-Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has completed his long-anticipated move to Shanghai Shenhua, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with the Chinese Super League club.

Drogba, 34, who confirmed his intention to leave Stamford Bridge after scoring the winning penalty for Chelsea in the Champions League final shoot-out victory over Bayern Munich, will earn a reported £200,000 a week.

"I have considered all the offers I have received in the past few weeks, but feel that Shanghai Shenhua FC is the right move for me at this time," he said. "I am looking forward to a new challenge, to experiencing a new culture, and am excited about the new developments in the Chinese Super League.

"When Chelsea went to China last year, we had a great time and I met some amazing fans. I hope to help promote Chinese football around the world and further improve the links between China and Africa."

Drogba will join up with his new team-mates, including his former Chelsea strike partner Nicolas Anelka, in July.

Owner Zhu Jun, the video games magnate who runs the free-spending club, wants the Ivory Coast international to spearhead Shenhua's challenge for a Super League title.

"We have been wanting to sign Didier for a while, and are very happy that it has finally happened," Zhu Jun said.

"He is an incredible player who has won so many trophies in his career. We feel that his experience and ability will be a very valuable asset to our squad. Shanghai is one of the most influential cities in the world, and we are very excited to welcome Didier here."

New manager Sergio Batista paid tribute to the club's owner for attracting a player of Drogba's calibre to China.

"Drogba is a very good soccer player - his outstanding skills and amazing experience will give us motivation to improve our games," Batista said. "It is my honour to invite him to join our team."

Oh please! You didn't choose to to go to China because your excited about the Chinese Super League. Your excited because your 34 and going to be making 200K a week! And that's not dollars mind you that POUNDS! I would have loved to see him in MLS and I believe he does have allot left in the tank but how is anyone (club) going to compete with that offer.

*UPDATE Officials find Body of missing Irish soccer fan found

*UPDATE- Via AP -  Polish authorities believe a body found floating in a canal is that of an Irish soccer fan after documents in his name were discovered on the corpse.

The 21-year-old James Nolan disappeared early Sunday in the northern city of Bydgoszcz, sparking a huge search effort. Police divers found a body early Wednesday and authorities are awaiting Nolan's father to arrive later to formally identify it.

Prosecutor Wlodzimierz Marszalkowski says the soaked documents were Nolan's insurance and credit card.

A spokesman for prosecutors, Jan Bednarek, told The Associated Press that ''there is a high probability that this is the body of the man we have been searching for.''

Via AP-BYDGOSZCZ, Poland -- Police divers searching for an Irish soccer fan missing in northern Poland found a man's body floating in a canal Wednesday, officials said.

The corpse was discovered in the waters of a channel flowing through the city of Bydgoszcz, where 21-year-old James Nolan, of Blessington, County Wicklow, disappeared early Sunday. The body hasn't yet been identified, police spokesman Maciej Daszkiewicz said.

It was found lying face down in fast-flowing water of the Bydgoszcz Canal and trapped by a weir that runs across it. The canal is an offshoot of the city's Brda River, and brings water for a small hydro electric plant.
Police and firefighters, some in boats and others handling dogs, had been searching along the river, canal and adjacent waste ground Tuesday and again on Wednesday. Moments before the body was found, two divers in an inflatable dinghy were seen speeding toward the site. A police cordon was quickly set up around the area, which is near a museum and a church.

Prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the case and witnesses were being questioned, police spokeswoman Monika Chlebicz said. Four high-ranking Irish police officers already in Poland to monitor fan behavior at the European Championship, have been diverted to the case, Irish media said. Nolan's father, Jimmy, was also traveling to Bydgoszcz.

Nolan was in Poland for Euro 2012 to follow Ireland, which has now been eliminated from the soccer tournament. He had been traveling with friends in a rented camper van, but was also registered at a hotel on the city's outskirts. He was last seen visiting local bars after watching televised games in a fan zone Saturday night.

A time-stamped photo on a friend's phone is the last trace authorities have of Nolan, police said. The image shows him with his friends at 2 a.m. Sunday, but everything after that is a mystery, one compounded by the blurry memory of friends who had been drinking.

Nolan's friends told Irish media they had a brief confrontation inside a market square pub, but Nolan wasn't directly involved. They said they got separated once they were outside the pub.
More than 100 police officers have been searching for Nolan, and photos of the Irishman have been plastered around the city.

Nolan's phone has been out of service since around the time he was last photographed. After his friends woke up Sunday morning, they tried calling Nolan in his hotel room and only then realized he had never returned there.

They then returned to the riverside bars where they had been the night before to look for him, but about 15 hours lapsed before they reported him missing.
Police said they have no information pointing to foul play and that so far they are treating Nolan as a missing person.

Nolan had left his passport at the hotel and only had about $90 on him, police said. A credit card he was carrying has not been used since his disappearance.
In Ireland, Nolan's parents said they had expected a call from their son Sunday because it was Father's Day, but it never came.

A Twitter campaign aimed at finding Nolan, who studies environment engineering at Tallaght Institute of Technology in Dublin, was launched in Ireland with the hashtags #FindJames and #JamesNolan. - Associated Press

There's a tacky joke to be made here but I'm just going to leave it alone.

Associated Press-WARSAW, Poland -- Police divers searched a river in northern Poland on Tuesday for a missing Irish soccer fan who disappeared while visiting the country to follow the European Championship.
James Nolan, 21, of Blessington, County Wicklow, was last seen early Sunday in the city of Bydgoszcz after watching games in fan zones and visiting local bars with a group of Irish friends, police said.
His companions notified authorities when they realized Nolan didn't return to their hotel and wasn't answering calls.

In Ireland, Nolan's parents were distraught, with his father expecting a call from his son Sunday on Father's Day after speaking to him the previous day.

"If there's anything anybody can do, we'd really appreciate it," Jimmy Nolan said during an interview Monday night on Irish state television RTE.

Fighting back tears, the father said "I know he's probably OK, but I mean, if anybody anywhere knows anything, please just let us know. Text us or ring us, or ring" the Irish police. He and his wife Essie appealed for Irish soccer fans still in Poland to help search for their son.

Divers and police robots were checking the waters of the Brda River, while officers also searched for Nolan in other parts of the city. Irish Ambassador Eugene Hutchinson was traveling to Bydgoszcz on Tuesday.
Police and local media have posted his photo on their websites, and officers were checking hospitals, basements, attics and abandoned buildings. Police were also reviewing security camera footage from restaurants and bars in central Bydgoszcz. Taxi and bus drivers were displaying "missing" leaflets with Nolan's photo on their windshields.

The search was also expended to the city of Torun, about 25 miles away. Nolan, who has dark blonde hair and blue eyes, was last seen wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt with an image of Chuck Norris. He is 5-foot-2.

A Twitter campaign aimed at finding Nolan, who studies environment engineering at Tallaght Institute of Technology in Dublin, was launched in Ireland with the hashtags FindJames and JamesNolan.

Nolan and a group of around 10 Irish friends arrived in Bydgoszcz on Saturday, making a stop en route from Gdansk to Poznan, where Ireland was playing matches against Croatia and Spain, said Krzysztof Schramm, deputy honorary consul of Ireland in Poznan. While in a bar, they possibly became involved in a dispute with a group of Poles, Schramm said.

Police didn't confirm this and said that Nolan's friends were still being questioned and that there was no mention of trouble with Poles in their initial statement.

Ireland was eliminated from Euro 2012 after losing all three of its group matches.

Toronto FC Players weren't content on just being awful on the field.

Associated Press-HOUSTON -- Three Toronto FC players have been charged with public intoxication after police said they got in a fight outside a Houston nightclub and then argued with officers.

Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says Miguel Aceval, Nick Soolsma and Luis Silva were jailed after the incident early Monday in the parking lot of the Club Escobar. Toronto FC plays the Houston Dynamo here on Wednesday night.

Silva says the three players were involved in a "large fight" outside the club about 2:30 a.m. Officers intervened, Silva says, and the three players "refused to leave the location and became belligerent" with police. One player, Silva says, tried to flee the scene on foot, but was caught. No one else was arrested.
Toronto FC has a 1-10-0 record, worst in Major League Soccer. The status of the arrested players for the game was not immediately known, but the team released a statement about the incident on Monday afternoon.

"We are aware of the charges filed against Miguel Aceval, Luis Silva and Nick Soolsma in Houston earlier today," the statement said. "The players are presently with the team and we continue to investigate this matter. As such, the team will not provide any further comment at this time."

Stoke City Academy player charged with murder

Newscore- An English soccer player has been charged with the murder of a 15-year-old girl who was stabbed at a house in Bedfordshire at the weekend.

Andrew Hall, 18, who plays for Premier League team Stoke City's academy, is accused of killing Megan-Leigh Peat, from Westoning in Bedfordshire.

The teenager died after being stabbed at a house in Ailesbury Road in Ampthill at around 1:30am on Saturday.

Hall was taken to hospital after the incident where he received treatment for injuries while being kept under guard until well enough to be interviewed.

After being questioned at Greyfriars police station in Bedford about the fatal stabbing, he was charged with Megan's murder on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said, "He is being held in police custody overnight and is due to appear at Luton Magistrates Court [Thursday] morning."

Stoke City, who had offered Hall a professional development contract, confirmed his arrest shortly after the incident.

My soap box rant about the USMNT

(No reason behind this photo except that she's better looking than Jurgen Klinsmann)

OK people I love the USMNT just as much as the rest of you. With groups like the American Outlaws and the growth of supporters world wide we as a country have shown that there is a growing population that is learning to love the sport.  The standings of the US as a legitimate soccer threat aren't near where most of us would like it to be but we're getting there.  With this last round of games played (Scotland to Guatemala) we've seen huge ups and downs.  One thing that has really bothered me through all of this is the plethora of fans screaming about how awful the US was in both of their WC Qualifier games. About how the Antigua & Barbuda game should have had a bigger margin of victory.  I am here to tell you doubters one thing : Chill the #*$% out!

After the US thrashed a lack luster Scotland 5-1 I think allot of people got a little to excited and set their expectations to high.  First of all Scotland had NOTHING to play for and they looked like it right out of the box.  With no trip to the Euro's in their future Scotland looked like they could have cared less about this game.  All the US did in my eyes was to take advantage of that.  I think the 5-1 score line really showed nothing about our depth and talent on this team.

While no one really expected us to beat Brazil I believe that the 4-1 scoreline showed the exact opposite of what the Scotland score showed.  While Scotland were an easy mark Brazil was the exact opposite.  The one trophy that Brazil doesn't own is an Olympic gold medal.  It's a point of pride for Brazil to win this year in London and they have been traveling with the squad that they are going to be taking to London for the most part.  That game very easily could have been a 4-3 or 4-2 loss by the US. The US showed allot of heart and grit during this game and that is what people should have taken away from this match.

Canada was another story.  I don't think the US players took this game seriously and therefor didn't put much effort into the game.  Lets all remember that friendlies don't count for shit in the end.  The only people that were bothered by the US performance was the fans that think we should blow out every opponent that's considered a "lesser" team. Unfortunatly that doesn't always happen.

Now with that said I've heard allot of criticism for the way the US played against Antigua and Barbuda.  I don't really now how much more you could ask of your team in a WC Qualifier.  The credit for this game has to go to Antigua and Barbuda's back line.  While the score may not reflect it they were pretty solid through the entire match. For a team made up of mostly players from Antigua Barracuda FC that plays in the USL Pro division and handful of lower tier England teams against a squad of players from top flight European, MLS, and Mexican squads they played very well.

You have to consider that once you get into qualifying for the World Cup all teams bring their best. No team is just a push over and every team played should be viewed as a threat.

Now to the game last night with Guatemala. I've seen several stories this morning about how "lack luster" the US performance was.  Yes it's very frustrating to give up a late goal on a silly foul.  Yes it was have been nice to see Altidor tap in the beautiful pass from Bradley late in the game to win it.  But before we get upset that the US drew 1-1 lets take a deep breath.  Playing on the road anywhere, but especially Central America, is NEVER easy.  When you have to tell your team not to eat out because your afraid they may get poisoned, or to stay at the hotel because of fears of confrontations with locals it puts a mental strain on the players.  Hostile doesn't even begin to describe the atmosphere down there and the home field advatage plays a large part.

Let's all just chill out and be happy with where we are in WC qualifying.  We've gotten 4 point from 2 games one of which was on the road in Central America.  I feel like some fans in this country feel like we should able to compete for a WC crown now.  As much as I wished this were true we have to be realistic.  We have a solid top 25 team in the world and we're only getting better. I don't think Klinsmann has really solidified who he likes and doesn't like yet (See Oguchi Onyewu). I would like to see a few more guys get their shots on this team (Cooper, Shea, Beasley to name a few) but I think we are headed in the right direction.

Let me know what you think - Jay N

Antonio Cassano hates the gays w/ greatest picture ever

(Hey Antonio with pictures like this you should probably be quiet.)

Via AP-Italy forward Antonio Cassano said Tuesday that he hopes there are no homosexual players on the national team at the European Championship, and he then used a derogatory word to describe gays.
After being told by an Italian reporter that there might be some undeclared gay players on the team, Cassano appeared at a loss for words before responding.

''That's their problem, but I hope not. ... But I don't know,'' he said, then added that he hoped his answer sufficed. ''Because if not, you know I'll be attacked from every direction.''
Gay associations in Italy immediately reacted with outrage to Cassano's comments.

''Those that express hate toward others should not represent us in the national team,'' homosexual cultural club leader Mario Mieli said, according to the ANSA news agency.

Gay Center spokesman Fabrizio Marrazzo added: ''He deserves at least a warning, if not to be expelled from the Euros.''

Meanwhile, Arcigay president Paolo Patane invited Cassano to make a ''courageous choice'' and become a spokesman in the fight against homophobia and racism in football.

Cassano has always been a player who speaks his mind. He had well-documented run-ins with Fabio Capello at both Roma and Real Madrid, and then a separation from Sampdoria when he allegedly insulted club president Riccardo Garrone with a profanity-laced verbal tirade.

He now plays for AC Milan, and risked losing his life after falling ill with stroke-like symptoms on the team plane in October. He then required minor heart surgery that kept him out for five months.

The question Tuesday was asked by an Italian journalist citing Alessandro Cecchi Paone, who co-wrote a book earlier this year with a title that can be translated as ''The champion in love. The banned games of sport.''

The journalist also suggested that there are a couple of metrosexual players on Italy's squad.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli wrote the preface to Cecchi Paone's book, in which he said, ''Everyone should be free to live with their desires and their feelings. We all need to dedicate ourselves for a sports culture that respects individuals in every expression of truth and liberty.''

Another Italy forward, Antonio Di Natale, said after the book came out in April that homosexual footballers should not reveal that they are gay.

In a statement released to ANSA, Cecchi Paone said he would invite Cassano to dinner after the tournament ''to explain to him the absolute foolishness of his view, because maybe he's a little confused.''
''I want to make him understand that he was ill-mannered toward his teammates who are forced to hide themselves,'' Cecchi Paone added. ''And therefore they play worse.''

Homosexuality in football has been a taboo subject for years.

Justin Fashanu, the first black footballer to move in a 1 million pound transfer when he joined English club Nottingham Forest in 1981, saw his career fade after he publicly acknowledged his homosexuality. He was found hanged in a London garage in 1998 at age 37.

This will make you vomit... It's still kinda awesome though.

So yeah I'm going to go ahead and apologize now. It seems River Plate midfielder Leo Ponzio burst a hemorrhoid during a match against Boca Unidos. You have to hand it to the guy for being able to continue while his ass is bleeding.

Poland and Russia show their love for each other....oh wait I got that wrong didn't I.

Via AP- Russian football fans clashed with police and Poland supporters in separate incidents in Warsaw on Tuesday, just hours before the two teams were to meet in an emotionally charged match at Euro 2012. Several people were injured.

In what appeared to be the most violent incident, Polish football hooligans were seen attacking Russians, who responded violently. The two sides, made up of dozens of men, kicked and beat each other in the faces, while flares could be seen exploding in their midst.

Associated Press journalists saw several people lying injured and bleeding on the ground, with one of them appearing to be seriously hurt.

Poland and Russia fans were also seen fighting and throwing stones outside the stadium.
There were a number of other incidents as well, which came as Russia fans waving their country’s flag marched to the stadium in a show of patriotism seen as provocative to many Poles. It was considered a huge security challenge for police.

In one case, Russia fans clashed with police on a bridge near the National Stadium and police were later seen making arrests.

In another, a group of clearly drunken Polish men began fighting among themselves, hitting and kicking each other. Two were on the ground bleeding and police intervened, throwing two more to the ground. The men were holding cans of beer and mumbling and one appeared to be unconscious. An AP reporter witnessed the incident and saw police detain three people.

Poland and Russia share a difficult history, including decades of Moscow’s control over Poland during the Cold War. Many Poles felt the Polish authorities should not have allowed the Russians to march as a group in Warsaw given the historical wounds.

Terrence Boyd finds a first team home

Via AP DORTMUND, Germany -- United States forward Terrence Boyd is joining Austrian club Rapid Vienna from Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga champion says the 21-year-old Boyd has agreed to a three-year deal with Vienna. It did not give details about the transfer fee.

Boyd scored 20 goals and set up five more for Dortmund's reserve team after coming from Hertha Berlin's second team last year.

Dortmund youth coordinator Lars Ricken says: "Today he's playing for the U.S. national team. It's further proof that you can have excellent prospects through hard work with our second team."

Boyd, the son of an American serviceman and a German mother, made his international debut as a substitute against Italy on Feb. 29. - AP

Hopefully Boyd will get solid playing time with Rapid and continue to develop into the solid up front striker that Klinsmann has been hyping.  I would have loved to see him get some time with Dortmund but if he cant get solid minutes then Rapid Vienna is the best option for him.

Those crazy (racist?) Poles are at it again!

(Before you all send me emails Yes! I know the picture is of Ukrainian fans but you get the point.)

From ESPNFC-  Concerns over potential racism from fans at Euro 2012 came to the forefront Thursday when players for the Netherlands said they heard monkey chants at an open training session Wednesday, one day before the tournament opens.

Hundreds of the 25,000 people in attendance in Krakow, Poland, targeted Nigel de Jong and Gregory van der Wiel, who are black, with monkey noises and loud jeers.

Dutch captain Mark van Bommel said the chants came from one end of the stadium in Krakow as the Dutch squad trained Wednesday before leaving to face Denmark in their Group B opener Saturday at Kharkiv, Ukraine. Such was the disgust among players that they moved to the other side of the field.

"We will not accept that one of us is confronted with monkey chants," van Bommel said in Friday's edition of De Telegraaf. "We will point it out to the referee and if such chants are heard again we will ask him to intervene."

The Dutch squad had made solemn and emotional visits to the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps close to Krakow.

"It is a real disgrace especially after getting back from Auschwitz that you are confronted with this," van Bommel told The Guardian Thursday. "We will take it up with UEFA and if it happens at a match we will talk to the referee and ask him to take us off the field."
"At least now we know what we can encounter," Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk told The Guardian. "Very atmospheric."

UEFA, a day after reportedly denying the chants were racially motivated, acknowledged them Friday.
"UEFA has now been made aware that there were some isolated incidents of racist chanting," UEFA said in a statement.

Van Bommel told The Guardian Thursday, after UEFA's initial denial:
"You need to open your ears. If you did hear it, and don't want to hear it, that is even worse."
However, on Friday, UEFA spokesman Alexandre Fourtoy insisted there still was no proof or evidence that the racist abuse actually occurred.

"We are more worried that this incident could be given disproportionate importance," Fourtoy said. "I think it's unfair for Poland and Ukraine to be considered racist countries -- South Africa in the 1980s was a racist country.

"The two countries have worked very hard to organize this tournament and we should not disturb this because 10 people are chanting in a stadium."

Netherlands teammate Ibrahim Afellay, who is black, told De Telegraaf that the jeers had "saddened him." However, the Dutch federation said Thursday it did not file a complaint to UEFA.
"UEFA has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to discriminatory behavior and has given the power to referees to stop matches in case of any repeated racist behavior," UEFA said.

On Wednesday, UEFA president Michel Platini had promised that referees will stop matches if players suffer abuse from fans, as questions on racism in Poland and Ukraine, the co-host nations, dominated a news conference to launch the tournament. But he also warned players they would be shown a yellow card if they acted alone by walking off the field.

Racism has emerged as a key issue for the Euro 2012 tournament, and concern was fueled by a British television program last week showing discrimination and violent incidents at recent club matches in both Poland and Ukraine.

Four years ago, UEFA fined the Croatia national association $19,600 for its fans' neo-Nazi flags and chants during a Euro 2008 quarterfinals loss against Turkey in Vienna, Austria.

The sole black player on the Czech Republic's team, Theodor Gebre Selassie, said he hoped racism wouldn't flare up in the stadiums. "We don't know yet what the situation will be like at the stadiums," he said, adding that he would not walk off the field. "I'm not ready to give up. I definitely won't leave. I'll stay
until they throw stones at me."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Bombs are going off in Ukraine

NewsCore- Ukraine-At least eight people were injured Monday after an explosion on a tram in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk, the Interfax news agency reported.

Witnesses said that two men received burns to the hands in the incident. At least six other passengers suffered injuries.

Passengers aboard the tram panicked in the moments after the explosion, and the driver quickly opened the tram's doors to let people disembark.

The incident comes after four explosions in the same city left 27 people injured in April. Those explosions were caused by bombs placed in a trash can, outside a movie theater, near a railway station and in a public park.

There were no fatalities caused by the April 27 blasts, however several people were hospitalized.
The Ukraine and Poland are currently playing host to the Euro 2012 soccer tournament, but Dnipropetrovsk will not hold any games.

You stay classy Russian Fans

After racially abusing Czech Republic Defender Theodor Gebre Selassie during Friday's Group A match up the Russian fans thought it would be a good idea to attack the game Stewards for no obvious reason.  I love that the Eastern European countries continue to remind us all that they still live in the dark ages.  At least when the Tea Party here in the US spout racism they at least try to cover it up.

Did the Germans poison the Ukrainians? I'm going with yes.

               Via

KIEV, Ukraine Via (AP) — A bad salad at a German hotel might have caused the food poisoning that sickened 10 players of European Championship co-host Ukraine before their final warm-up game against Turkey on Tuesday.

Ukraine team doctor Leonid Mironov believes the weakened players suffered from "the bad effects of eating a salad," the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.

Team spokesman Oleksandr Glyvynskiy told The Associated Press there will be no further investigation into the cause of the food poisoning, despite head coach Oleg Blochin suggesting on Ukrainian TV that "it may have been sabotage."

Glyvynskiy said all players had recovered well and the full 23-man squad was expected to complete a training session Thursday, four days before the team's Euro 2012 opening game against Sweden.

(Over weight Editors note)- That's what you get for eating healthy! (Eats entire pizza....cries.)

Sad day for Spanish Football

Via AP VALENCIA, Spain -- Villarreal coach Manuel Preciado died of a heart attack Thursday, one day after joining the team. He was 54. Preciado was in Valencia when he was stricken, the team said. Preciado had a one-year deal and was to be introduced Friday at Villarreal.

"We are all shocked," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said from Poland where he is preparing his team for the European Championship.

"We were having breakfast and we were all taken back by the news," he told Spanish radio Marca. "He was a caring person and a great sportsman. He was a man of football that was an honor to coaching."
Spain's internationals were also affected by Preciado's passing.

"The truth is that this is difficult to digest," said Chelsea forward Juan Mata at Spain's training base in Gniewino. "I always remember him smiling, as a happy person that transmitted his passion, joy and character to all his teams. "Talking about him in the past tense is tough for me."

Preciado's sudden death led to an outpouring of emotional responses from Spanish clubs, coaches and players. Real Madrid was one of several teams to express its condolences to his family along with the Spanish soccer federation.

Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, who suffered his first home defeat in league play in nine seasons last year to Preciado's Sporting and with whom he had a public spat before later reconciling, said Preciado "was always a dignified rival."

"He had everything I like in people and sportsmen: character, honesty and the courage to fight on," the Portuguese coach wrote in an open letter published on Madrid's website.

Mallorca coach Joaquin Caparros said he broke into tears on hearing the news. "I was so happy for him joining Villarreal," he said. "I am sure he would have taken it back to the first division. He should be a reference in the world of coaching." Villarreal was relegated from the Spanish league last season.

Preciado, a native of the Cantabria region in northern Spain, began coaching in the third division in 1995. He led Levante from the second to the first division in the 2003-04 season, and also guided Sporting back to the topflight for the first time in ten years in 2007-08.

He coached Sporting for a total of five and a half seasons before a poor start last year led to him being fired midway through the season. Sporting did not recover and was relegated, along with Villarreal and Racing.
Preciado was a fan favorite in Gijon and one of the most charismatic managers in Spain, known for his frank and entertaining manner of addressing both press and players alike.

Preciado's 232 games for Sporting were second only to Jose Diaz Novoa's 282. Sporting said Preciado's name was "written into the history of the club in golden letters."

As a player, he also had stints with Mallorca, Alaves, Ourense, Linares and Gimnastic de Torrelavega.
Villarreal President Fernando Roig said the club will try to look after Preciado's family.
"We will give support to his family, and we will all try to respect their feelings and help them in this difficult moment," he said.

Preciado is a former player with several clubs including Racing Santander and had also previously coached teams including Racing, Levante, Murcia and Sporting Gijon.ints with Mallorca, Alaves, Ourense, Linares and Gimnastic de Torrelavega.

For Villarreal, the tragedy overshadows a dire season marked by injuries to key players, including striker Giuseppe Rossi, which saw it fall from playing in the Champions League to relegation that was confirmed in the closing minutes of the final round.

Your favorite Euro 2012 kit could kill you.

Howdy party people! Sorry I've been slow on the posts the last few days. I'm not feeling well at all.

However on the upside of things:  Via NewsCore - Wasrsaw, Poland - European soccer fans were warned against buying their nation's jerseys at Euro 2012 because of toxic chemicals contained in the replica kits.

"Worrying" levels of chemicals, including lead and nickel, were found in jerseys of nine competing countries, including tournament favorites Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, European consumer group BEUC said.
Co-host Poland will kick off the tournament Friday wearing a jersey that "should be banned outright" from stores because its use of an organotin compound, employed to prevent sweat odor, exceeds legal limits, the body said.

The Spanish and Italian jerseys were found to contain nonylphenol, a chemical so harmful that it is banned from wastewater because of its danger to the environment.

"It is inexplicable that heavy metals are used in mass consumer products," BEUC director Monique Goyens said, while demanding a review of EU legislation regarding chemicals after the jerseys were passed for manufacture.

"It is clearly foul play by manufacturers to use substances harmful to both people and the environment," she added.

The jerseys of co-host Ukraine, Russia, France and Portugal also were singled out as being unfit for purchase.

Jessica Kardashian makes way more sense than I do!

You are all welcome!

Review: England v Belgium. *Cleavage Edition

Here is the always awesome Jessica Kardashian with her review of the England v Belgium game. Jessica your doing a great job but I'm going to need that TMNT poster back up asap!

Joey Barton got what he deserved? I like to think so.

So apparently everyone favorite sucker puncher (is that a term?) Joey Barton decided to have a nice quiet evening with his girlfriend at Garland's night club in Liverpool.  And I know this may come as a shock but he was accosted out front by two men as he tried to leave.

QPR spokesman Ian Taylor said: "Joey Barton was involved in an incident in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Monday morning.

"Barton was on his way home from a night out with his girlfriend when two men sang offensive chants and then proceeded to hit the [QPR] midfielder."

"Police were immediately on the scene and arrested one man. Barton decided not to press charges and left the scene with his girlfriend soon after."

"The club will be making no further comment."

I guess when you throw cheap shots you should expect to receive them back at some point.  I'm not a MCFC fan or anything but what Barton did in QPR's final game against MC was a shame to the game and he deserved the 12 game ban that the FA handed out to him.

The picture above is one that someone snapped during the incident early Monday morning of a shirtless Barton being held back by police and his (I assume) girlfriend. God bless cellphone cameras.

Euro 2012 Group Stage Predictions

OK so I know allot of you (none of you) have been wondering about MY picks for the upcoming Euro group stage.  Some may shock you (not really) and some may disappoint you (probably).  OK I'm done sorry, here's my picks:

Group A: Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Russia - I guess this could be considered the "easy" group of Euro 2012 but it may turn out to be one of the most fun to watch.  Both Greece and the Czechs have both won the European Championship before.  Granted Czech Republic hasn't won since 1976 but with 2 third place finishes and one runner up trophy the Czech to me are the favorite out of this group.  I know Russia finished third in 2008 but I'm not convinced of their sides strength to win this group.

My Picks- Czech Republic win this group with Russia in the runner up spot.

Group B: Denmark, Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands - What a stacked group this is. I keep hearing about Group C being the "Group of Death' but I'm not so sure that this isn't going to be the toughest group to get out of.   Denmark have a young exciting team who will be looking to play spoilers to 3 of Europe's top teams. The Dutch have a few injury's but I don't think that will hinder them to much.

My Picks- I think this group is to close to call a winner.  My guess though is that Germany and The Netherlands go through but don't be shocked if the Portuguese pull an upset over one of them to advance. And look for Denmark to screw up someones Euro 2012.

Group C: Italy, Spain, Croatia, Ireland - I believe that this is the group that will have the most surprising outcome when the group stages are all said and done.  Ireland may feel like they have something to prove after what happened to them against France in World Cup Qualifiers for WC 2010.  Keene isn't getting any younger and this may be his last shot at doing something amazing for his country and I think they are the biggest unknown in this tournament.  Italy has not had a good run up to the start of Euro 2012.  They've dropped their last three friendlies and also lost an embarrassing game at home to the United States not all that long ago.  With all the trouble that Italian football is having domestically I wouldn't be shocked to see a performance reminiscent of France in the 2010 WC. Maybe not a complete meltdown like France had but I wouldn't be shocked if the Italians are left shaking their heads trying to figure out what happened when the dust settles.  Because of the slight disarray of Italy I think that if Croatia can have solid performances they may slip through. Although after watching Croatia against Norway the other day I'm not sure they can do that.

My Picks- Spain wins the group with Croatia in 2nd.

Group D: England, France, Sweden, Ukraine - This is a tough one to call.  France have a much improved and much changed side since the debacle in South Africa two years ago.  The young players from France may see this a coming out party of sorts while the veterans may see it as a way to exercise the demons of 2010.  England is a little bit of a question mark for me.  With a new manager in Roy Hodgson and young team there's no way tell what Euro 2012 hold for England.  I think there will be allot of pressure on Roy to perform and it will be interesting to see how the team responds.  With a veteran like Lampard being out and some older leadership gone (Ferdinand, also Rooney for the first 2 matches) it only puts more pressure on the young talent of this team to go win England's first European Championship.  Sweden however could slip by England into the runner up spot if they can take advantage of someones slip up.

My Picks- France win the group with England runner up.  But do note that I said that Sweden could surprise allot of people.
